General Information

The 6th Annual Irie Music Festival will make waves again this summer when the popular reggae and global music attraction returns to Nathan Philips Square, Ontario Place and the newest addition — Queen’s Park North. With a focus on showcasing food from the tropical regions around the world, Taste of The Tropics at Queen’s Park North is our newest tradition for this great festival. The four-day IRIE extravaganza featuring music, food and culture at three downtown locations will take place from August 3rd through August 6th, 2007.

Created as a unifying symbol of Toronto’s diversity, the Irie Music Festival is an opportunity to promote a greater understanding between the diverse cultures and traditions of our world-class city. The Festival encompasses a wide variety of activities including:

  • dance presentations
  • art exhibitions
  • demonstrations
  • children’s activities and rides
  • a tropical food fair
  • crafts
  • street performances
  • poetry
  • author readings
  • and much more…

About Ontario Place

IRIE Fest at at Ontario Place has become memorable addition as a paid event to the IRIE celebrations. Last year, IRIE featured the Grammy Award-winning UK reggae band, Steel Pulse as the headliner in concert.

Fans can expect another international headliner in the tradition of previous artists at IRIE such as Toots & The Maytals, Morgan Heritage, Third World, Freddie McGregor, David Rudder, Maxi Priest, Ernest Ranglin to name a few. Admission to IRIE Day at Ontario Place includes the “Play All Day Pass” that entitles the bearer to the use of most Ontario Place rides and attractions, including Cinesphere films and the Soak City water park.

Ontario Place, the internationally acclaimed cultural, leisure and entertainment venue, offers and ideal playground for children and adults alike. The complex extends throughout three man-made islands along the Lake Ontario waterfront. With over 30 rides and attractions including Soak City water park and the Cinesphere, Ontario Place is a great fit for the IRIE experience

About Nathan Philips Square

Nathan philips Square will continue to house the annual IRIE Music Festival and the IRIE Book and Art Fair. In addition to live music performances, author readings and an art exhibition, audiences are invited to take in festivities ranging from dance presentations and street performers to a choir performance. The proximity of this large open-air venue to public transit and downtown hotels make it an ideal location for the Irie Music Festival. About Queen’s Park North

Queen’s Park is the newest venue to feature IRIE activities. The venue will feature live music, dance presentations, arts & craft vendors, a wine & beer garden and Taste of the Tropics, Irie’s city picnic. The relaxed urban setting of Queen’s Park is an ideal location for A Taste of The Tropics. It is easily accessible via public transit and has been a favourite venue for a variety of festivals, parades and marches throughout it’s history.
