With each touch of the microphone, MYS3’s creative, thought provoking lyrics connects him personally to the soul of his audience.
Born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, MYS3 (born Kevin Ellis) was born into a family of great reggae musicians. His grandfather, the late Alton Ellis, nicknamed the “Godfather of Rocksteady” was an international reggae artist inducted into the International Reggae and World Music Awards Hall of Fame in 2006. MYS3 credits his grandfather and his father, Noel Ellis as some of his biggest influences. Being that reggae was in his blood, MYS3 found it hard to resist what came naturally to him and pursued a career as a songwriter/reggae artist.
At the age of 14 he became a DJ of his own sound, “Krisis Sound”, a group of Toronto based reggae DJ’s. They were a young, vibrant sound who was able to acquire several dubplates from many known artists such as, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Tanto Metro, Elephant Man and many more. As time passed, MYS3 made the decision to start writing and producing his own songs.
Making connections with Toronto’s top promoters, he soon found himself performing as an opening act for Collie Buddz, a reggae/dancehall artist from Bermuda, in December 2007; Demarco a dancehall artist from Jamaica in 2009/10. From 2007 to 2009, he released several mixtapes which he has showcased his music with various DJs across the globe. He achieved his first viral hit in 2013 when his song “Da Way U Wine” became a sensation worldwide, blowing up in countries such as United States of America, France, Germany, UK, Sweden, Nederlands and many more receiving over 6+ million streams and millions of downloads. He continues to write songs and produce his own music waiting for the next opportunity to soar through the charts.
