Aria Zenua, more commonly known as simply Aria (pronounced Ah/ree/ah) is a Canadian Soul/ R&B singer, songwriter and youth coordinator. Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario Aria was surrounded by music and art her whole life. Her mother would always sing gospel songs and her father was an artist and guitar player, performing in punk, R&B and Reggae bands. Aria’s own musical career began at the age of seven when she first began singing. In 1999 she joined a four part female group known as Shades of Brown whose sound was often compared to artists like SWV and Mary J Blige. Her artistry was expanded when she later performed in a Neo Soul Jazz duo with her older sister.
In 2001 Aria went solo and submerged herself in the local Toronto entertainment scene, quickly becoming a popular staple performer at multiple open mics. She hosted gigs, weddings and performed at various showcases, such as the Honey Jam across the city. While working with the likes of Tone Mason and other very talented producers Aria began collaborating with her father to create her unique, diverse sound. Giving birth to her multi dimensional music they fused reggae, soul and acoustic tones to create this incomparable blend she dubbed FUSITION. Aria’s growth continued and expanded when in 2002 she had the opportunity to do studio work, landing voice-over gigs for the award winning t.v. show Degrassi: The Next Generation and radio promotions for the clothing store Illicit.
In 2005 Aria was selected to sing overseas in Hong Kong with a 5 piece band. She performed 6 nights a week and entertained people from all parts of the world. This intensified her craving for the stage and upon returning to Toronto she did nearly weekly gigs and was off to Cuba and then Macau within 6 months. Recognized as an undeniable leader she was now creating her audience by revealing her freedom on stage and passion towards Change and knowledge of self. Back in Toronto with her guitarist father and drummer Suundjae Skies, she started the band, EARTHTONE. In 2009 Aria enrolled in Lyme and Tings, the Toronto talent competition themed after Harlem, New York’s Apollo Theatre and was chosen as one of the last two finalists. The competition created a following of people who became faithful to her unique sound and her honest expression.
