Empress Divine

Empress Divine performs at the TD IRIE Music Festival on Saturday, July 30th at Queen’s Park.

Empress Divine is a multi-talented soulful songstress who is inspired by her love of Reggae and R&B music to write songs that touches her listeners. At the age of eight she had a passion for music and wasn’t afraid to express her talent. She began to sing at school assemblies and talent show’s and was encouraged by other’s who recognized her talent to pursue a career in music. This home grown Toronto talented lioness is very powerful within and has the ability to express her self in many different ways.

Her musical influence’s are inspired by reggae music icons such as The Abbysinians, Burning Spears, Bob Marley, Luciano, Garnett Silk and I Three just to name a few! Empress Divine’s vocal ability was inspired by R&B sensations such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Lauren Hill. This has had an impact on her style and vocal ability. She has shared the stage with Luciano, Mickey General, Demolition Man, Tony Rebel and Khari Kill just to name a few.

In one word Empress Divine represents versatility! Currently Empress Divine is in the studio recording music such as Jah Lives, Sensimillia and Mama Africa and Brap Brap to be released on her up and coming EP.

Empress Divine is a Selector from Empress Eternal Sound that has been spinning music for the past six years, featuring on the radio airwave’s such as 88.1 and 105.5 playing the finest in conscious reggae music. This Lioness has selected along side sounds such as king Stur Grav, Super Fresh, Kulcha ites, Rebel Dawta’s and many more. Empress Divine is very active within the Rastafari community and as she evolves she shall continue to uplift the nations with her positive musical vibrations!!! Currently Empress Divine has other projects in the works and is set to release a Dubplate Compilation CD featuring Canadian and international artist’s on a global scale.

In recognition of Empress Divine’s musical talent, she has been nominated for best female DJ in 2010 at the Reggae Music Achievement Awards and was recently nominated in three different categories at the Bashment community appreciation awards, Top Dancehall Female DJ, Top Female Singer and Top Female Entertainer.
